Personally, I didn't like its structure set up and YML language. CakePHP is very much like PHP and is really just a set of classes that provide functionality, and the structure is true MVC to me.
But certainly I think it's important that with whatever framework you use, that jQuery is the JS library of choice for simplicity and lightweight functionality.
