This wasn't the cause of the problem in my case, but I did fix it by replaceing the .load with .get instead.

I've noticed that ajax can sometimes consider an internal link a different domain if you're accessing the page without putting www before the address & you're link does use www (& vice-versa). I think I read in another post on this mailing list that IE sees internal links as full links, so maybe the combination of these two things is what's causing it?
