Hi, First I want to present myself as a new user of the discuss list. I'm a Ubuntu-user on a Dell d420 and got interested in power / heat problems when I started to see how hot my Dell got. So I installed PowerTop and when running of AC it now runs colder and even more silent. Which is great and also what was my initial plan when installing PowerTop.
When I am charging the battery the laptop is getting noisier and also hotter. 73 Celcius is pretty much the top. This also means that my fans are running on high speed which means more power consuming and also more noise. Which brings me to the reason for adding myself to the list: When I run PowerTop in AC-mode (charging mode) I get this message in PowerTop: no ACPI power usage estimate available Is this because it is charging, or is this something that should be reported as a bug of some sort. Love the PowerTop-application, and also the LessWatts-initiative.
