Hey Guy's!

Confused user here.
I'm running Slackware 13.1 with Kernel 3.6.36 on an Toshiba Satellite
A30-303.

My confusion lies with my inability to get ACPI to function properly. As per
usual I'm forced to use "acpi=off" as kernel boot option to get it to boot.
The only other option that does anything remotely usefull is "force=acpi
pci=noacpi". The only problem with that is....

1) Kernel will boot until an unspecified time (it varies wildely).
I have to wait a few seconds and then wiggle my finger on the touchpad to
get it to continue booting. I can then boot (hopefully) to runlevel 3
(multi-user without X). From there I'm stuck. X won't start and everything
hangs. I don't have another machine I can ssh with to see if the kernel's
still running, but I have tried to REISUB, but no success.

2) It just doesn't boot at all.

Now, from many hours spent googling, I know that some laptops suffer from
the whole buggy DSDT issue, and if I'm not mistaken, my laptop is a known
suspect. I have also noticed on the ACPI page it suggested that the OEM DSDT
should be left intact, as the kernel is expected to work around it.

So, will a modified DSDT solve my problem?
Will downloading ACPI from the project site and compiling it separately
solve my issue? i.e. Will this be a newer, updated version than was shipped
with Kernel 3.6.36?
Should I just give up?

Any suggestions will be gratefully appreciated.
Many, many thanks in advance.
