Um, but maybe I can be of help...what happens if you create a fresh
new user as a test? Does this test user see the same symptoms?

I think it may be moot at this point. I had been getting video
corruption and/or crashes on that system with either the Cinnamon or KDE
Plasma desktops and now last night, it occurred with MATE after it had
been running for a while (1-2 hours), video corruption.
Strangely, the video is fine when using the LXDE or LXQt desktops.
I don't know either...
