Interesting, because I use an app password on my Gmail account without
difficulty.
AOL and Yahoo are sending e-mails to their AOL/Yahoo Mail users on this
same issue, they are turning off third-party app access in October,
unless the user takes advantage of one of three options.
One of the options they are offering, is an app password to use with
third-party apps.
