That's odd. I use middle-mouse paste of text all the time, and firefox has never had trouble with it.
I did have trouble when they deprecated middle-mouse pasting of URIs into the firefox canvas to browse to that URI, but it turns out it's just a setting that can be changed under about:config. The setting is middlemouse.contentLoadURL, and a number of years ago they changed the default from "true" to "false". To re-enable the feature, just toggle it back to "true". I basically only notice this when I build a new machine.
