Void Linux has X11 and MATE,

I don't think I had heard of Void Linux. I'll keep it in mind. Poking about I'm pleased that MATE seems a common in distributions, good. And this gets me wondering about systemd alternatives.

I admit I don't know much about systemd, but every time I brush into it it looks complicated and like it is a do-everything mess, built by accretion not design. I admit, I'm ignorant, but I *do* know that there is something wrong with their design that they have to patch sshd. Patching sshd is simply WRONG, so I wonder about alternatives.

There seem to be a lot of alternatives. Any opinions on whether any are clean designs and well built?

Thanks,
