I sure know that since I looked at a little of the sources to Dovecot
I very much want to get off of it, when I get the chance.
I've been testing Stalwart (https://stalw.art) email package. It's a
replacement for postfix / dovecot / opendkim / OAuth / Web/Cal/CardDAV
... written in Rust.
Beautiful piece of software!
Yes, awhile back I ran across https://stalw.art, and I was very excited
by it.
But as I looked more carefully I decided I didn't like it.
It is an all-singing, all-dancing, full featured, integrated, do-all
solution! But I just want to swap something in for Dovecot. And maybe
swap it back out if it doesn't work for me.
But Stalwart is 100% take it or leave it, and once one is 100% in I
don't think there is going to be much motivated support for ever getting
out.
Lock-in doesn't just happen with commercial products.
