Dear all,

We are excited to announce the availability of onboarding sessions to prepare
Instructors to teach the _Data Carpentry Social Sciences lessons_.

This workshop uses a dataset from the Studying African Farmer-led Irrigation
(_SAFI) Project_ <http://www.safi-research.org/> - a research project looking
at farming and irrigation methods used by farmers in Tanzania and Mozambique.
This dataset is composed of survey data relating to households and agriculture
in Tanzania and Mozambique.

The workshop:

 * introduces project organisation and management for tabular interview/survey
data

 * covers common issues with tabular data, including date handling

 * uses OpenRefine to teach reproducible data cleaning

 * teaches the creation of summary statistics and publication-quality graphics
in R.

Find more information on _the workshop homepage_
<https://datacarpentry.org/socialsci-workshop/>.

We will be running onboarding sessions to help Instructors prepare to teach
this workshop. Onboarding sessions will be held 29 October through 9 November.
Sign up for a session on _this Etherpad._
<https://pad.carpentries.org/socialsciences-onboarding> If you want to pilot a
social sciences workshop at your institution, you can _request a workshop here_
<https://amy.software-carpentry.org/forms/dc/request/>. Instructors who have
completed onboarding will have priority for upcoming teaching opportunities. A
recorded onboarding will be made available after 9 November for Instructors who
are not able to join a live session.

You can also self-organise a social sciences workshop. Use _our checklists_
<https://docs.carpentries.org/topic_folders/hosts_instructors/index.html> to
help you plan and organise it.

Best,

Erin
