Hi everyone,

At the end of September, the central example of the Software Carpentry Version
Control with Git lesson <https://swcarpentry.github.io/git-novice/> will be
modified, replacing the current story of Wolfman and Dracula with a new
narrative around recipes. If you are curious about the specifics of the
changes, you can explore the pull request on the lesson repository
<https://github.com/swcarpentry/git-novice/pull/1003/files>.

To summarise how the lesson will change:
names and contents of example files will change, mostly to text files with
lists of ingredients
the new story revolves around two people hired to build a recipe archive for a
restaurant

The changes to the structure and flow of the lesson are minimal. If you have
taught the lesson recently, you should not notice much change: concepts are
introduced in the same order, and exercises remain the same apart from the
filenames/example content used.

If you have any questions or concerns, please ask here and I will try my best
to answer them.

Many thanks to the lesson Maintainers, the SWC Governance Committee/Curriculum
Advisors, and all the other members of the community who contributed to these
updates.

All the best,

Toby

PS if you teach Software Carpentry workshops, you may also be interested in
another big change that was made to improve the Git lesson recently: it now
teaches git switch and git restore instead of git checkout.
