Hi everyone,

The recommendations of the Lesson Setup Instructions Task Force were published
earlier this week. The task force was established to review and update the
software setup instructions we provide to learners before a workshop, for Bash,
Git, Python, and R. The changes we recommend will have some impact on
Instructors and it is important that you are aware of the changes that are
coming.

I wrote a blog post to summarise the recommendations
<https://carpentries.org/blog/2025/03/lesson-setup-instructions-task-force-recommendations/>,
 and you can also find the full text of the recommendations
<https://github.com/carpentries/task-forces/blob/main/2024/lesson-setup/lsitf-recommendations.md>
 on the task-forces repository. The next step is to implement the
recommendations: you can expect pull requests to update the setup instructions
on the relevant repositories in the coming days.

Please share your feedback on the recommendations — now and/or in the future
when you have had a chance to test them out or have taught a workshop with
learners using the new recommended setup.

Thanks,

Toby
