There have been some discussions in the past months about this (check
archive) but as far as I know, there is actually nobody
really workingon the integration of the Nexenta improvements into
Illumos. This is a pity as the Solaris CIFS server (beside Comstar and
Crossbow) is the main advantage of Illumos compared to a ZFS filer based
on BSD or Linux.
For me SMB2, disk or ZFS filesystem encryption and a free HA option is
essential for the future of Illumosas a storage OS so I really hope that
these features will come in near future. Maybe we must hope that Nexenta
is willing to help to strengthenthe whole platform as these features are
available on BSD/Linux.

Hi,
i read that Nexenta just add real support for SMB 2.1. As far as i
know they use the solaris CIFS kernel and not samba. Do you guys be in
contact with nexenta to port smb 2.1 to illumos too?
Just asking.
Thanks
