Hi,
while trying to update to latest illumos changes, I built updated sources, got
new pkg repo, then updated a test machine.
Got this message after reboot: "failed to get ramdisk from boot" and more error
stuff.
I felt safe, because ZFS and beadm let you have a SAFE copy of
BE....but.............................
Same with previous BE....
too bad.........if this was a customer machine I would kill myself...
Lucky enough this machine is a test for updates :)
So I tried booting from XStream DVD, going to bash, and following the same old
instructions to mount rpool...
.....but after importing rpool, I can't ever seem to mount rpool/ROOT/BEname,
always ending up with "/a not empty"...???
To go on, I had to umount both rpool/export/home and rpool/export then rpool.
Now I could mount rpool/ROOT/BEname, and then mount again rpool if needed.
...why this???
Then I tried grubinstall and update archive on /a.
Rebooted.
Nothing......still the same problem.
Lucky enough, I can reinstall system on the failing boot disk, it's a test
machine, other disks are separated and available.
But I really can't say what happened, and how I could get out of this hell on a
customer machine, without reinstalling!
Any help??
Gabriele.
