Hi,
I've recently being testing a newer updated kernel of XStreamOS, mainly on
storage features.
I'm using a very bare test machine on pourpose, to check limiations.
The machine just have one boot disk and one SATAII data disk, one 1GB and a
dual 10GB eth interface.
I am not still sure if there are other things affecting, but before delving
into hardware/driver issues,
I want to be sure there are no other kernel things around.
What happens is about two same installation with different kernels:
- same bare installation of XSOS, one with kernel April 2012, one with kernel
of October 2014
- using 1GB eth for maintenance (ssh, web interface ecc.)
- dedicate 2 10GB for SAN, with two dedicated networks
- created simple pool on the data disk, just one SATAII disk, expected iops
around 50MB/s
- created TPG on both 10GB and tagged the server iqn on them
- shared one vol as iscsi , with sync as standard
- mounted the vol from VMware on the correct 10GB network
- installed a windows machine with vmdk on the vol
Results are strange:
- the old 2012 installation works almost at 50MB/s, as can be expected by
SATAII disks
- the new 2014 installation works between 4-12MB/s !
I'm almost sure there is nothing else different, but the kernel version.
Obviously, if I disable sync, or if I add an ssd zil to the pool, they both
work up to 50MB/s
So, my question is (before investigating other stuff):
is there any known change on the kernel work on iscsi that changes default
behaviour of sync or what else?
I also tried to share a windows guest share, moving data on it always at 50MB/s
on both systems
Any idea?
