Hi, I'm having a strange issue on a Supermicro with Adaptec + 5 SAS in a raidz2 configuration. Here's my story... Initially I justa had to add RAM to the system, so we halted the system, added RAM, booted. Just after boot when the zpool starts working, one of the disks emit the error sound, and the zpool place it in FAULTED state. The disk shows the errer on with a nice red led. I try to just remove and insert again, it reaches the green state. So I just force the online state of the dev on the pool : few seconds and again the sound, again in FAULTED state. I find the new disk replacement: it' s not the same manufacturer (HITACHI), it's a TOSHIBA, but said to be completely compatible for hardware raids, so I assume it will be fine for a software managed raidz2. Put in place, and expect to see the device with format. I find it with format, but it does not see the type of disk (geometry and so on), so I try to play with cfgadm unconfigure, receiveing I/O errors. I read around that something is still keeping the old device around. So I run the zpool offline dev, to let it be free. Infact cfgadm unconfigure reaches the prompt with no errors. I happily run again the cfgadm configure, getting different I/O errors. Here I try with a devfsadm -Cv............zap! The device is gone! Not even on cfgadm! I try to remove, place back, no way....it's gone.... I cannot shut again the machine, so I will do it tonight and see if the device comes back. Will I be lucky??? What's happened??
