As far as I know, selecting OS type/version simply preselects some
options for you, and *limits* the virtual hardware to what it thinks is
supported by the OS. For example, on recent versions choosing Solars 11
doesn't allow me to use pvscsi, so I tend to just use "other 64bit" for
OS type. It could be that it also somehow affects the vmtools, but I'm
not using those.
