It's definitely possible, as the Virtio Block driver (vioblk) uses
blkdev and supports both boot and (I believe) dump.

Yes, at least NVMe dump was fixed and is fully working (see #9249); and of course we can boot off NVMe, doing just that on bare metal and VMs.
