so spent a while poking at it, seems i too grabbed a copy long ago, and
as carsten pointed out the c++ is a little arcane. now the real
question is, is it worth doing. if no one is even trying to use it,
than getting it up to date might be an interesting academic exercise,
but little more.
still thinking as an exercise and an excuse to rekindle some old,
semi-dead skills it might be worth it.
