Disregard my previous comment.  I see now that resilvering, even on a brand new 
SMR-drive into a “simple” mirror, is a bad news situation.

Additionally, using said drives for backups or storing large media files also 
doesn’t work well, as the long-sustained write operations exhaust internal 
caches and then hit the SMR-wall.

Lastly, regarding having super large L2ARC, I understand now that tables needed 
to support an L2ARC that large would exhaust RAM.

I just returned a pile of SMR disks.  Apologize for the noise.
