Do we need an OI specific organization? Why could this not be handled by the
existing Illumos Foundation? That was what I was going to propose. We're using
the same base OS. So far as I know, OI just adds GUI support. So having the
Illumos Foundation simply maintain a ledger entry for OI specific financial
contributions and disburse them seems much lower cost.
Another foundation is immediately burdened by the cost of tax preparation among
other things.

annual basis at around $200/yr. In particular I think we need a tech writer to
clean up the documentation, especially the wiki. Being able to hire developers
would be a huge boon. But if we just cleaned up the ancient cruft in the wiki
it would make life much easier.
My personal view is that without financial support from the user community OI
is in serious jeopardy. That would distress me greatly. For me, contributing
money is much less of a burden than trying to work on stuff myself.
