Although beeing a 64bit OS, Illumos is very RAM efficient
Ex:
On my OmniOS 151044 VM with 4 GB RAM, I see this in napp-it after powerup
with Apache webserver running.

I would expect a system up from 2GB even with a Mate GUI to be stable
but slow as free RAM above is mainly needed as a read/write cache for
performance. OmniOS without GUI needs less RAM similar to OI text,
console only. As a rule of thumb, I would want at least around 400k
writecache per user (whole writcache is around 10% RAM per default).
From the rest I would calculate 70% as readcache.
With 4 GB I would expect around 2GB for OS and GUi with around 400kB
writecache (ok for a single user) and maybe 1,2 GB Arc readcache.
Overall 4GB should work but is slow unless you use fast SSD/NVMe as pool
disks, every GB more would improve performance due more RAM caching.
