I don't like gpart. I know that the g letter in it stands for geom, but in general the tool is still more tailored for gpt partition table. To create plain old BSD disklabel and slices you still have to fall back to fdisk, and they have deprecated fdisk (why? your new and shiny gpart can't fully replace all of the functionalities offered by fdisk yet!).
Linux has more friendly tools and they usually come with a curses interface. They are also more portable.
