Hi,
Thanks for the Heads up. I assume the Xorg Testing suite will be under
XLibre organisation aswell?
Which one ? XTST or xorg-testing-ground ?
The testing ground is here:
https://github.com/X11Libre/xorg-testing
In our pipelines, we're also using XTST - it's not forked yet (let's see
whether we need to that one day).
Will it require XLibre for testing in the
Future or can we still use it with upstream(non fork) Xorg to test updates?
The protocol will remain compatible, of course (there are some new
extensions coming, eg. for Xnamespace).
There are changes in the module API/ABI, so some drivers, especially
Intel need to come from our repos. (Intel doesn't seem to actually
maintain it anymore, also on Xorg, for long time).
In any case - as usual - drivers need to be recompiled. (no matter
whether on xorg master or xlibre).
Please keep us posted on the XLibre progress and how and What you are
improving.
I'll crosspost my announcements, if that's okay.
One thing I see with the Nvidia Drivers seems to be a bit of
a stopper for us since we are currently lacking AMDGPU support and more
modern Intel kernel drivers. I'll keep an eye on the project.
NVidia proprietary driver is now confirmed to on Xlibre (it already
broke on Xorg master for quite some time) - at least on Linux.
No idea about Solaris world.
In general, we're planning to keep all support for HW that's still
actually used today (with recent Xserver, instead of just some vintage
museum use).
But since most of us are Linux-focused, we're not able to actually test
other OS'es on real machines. We need your help for that :)
Some open issue where we need your feedback:
https://github.com/X11Libre/xserver/pull/163
I'm thinking about dropping HAL support, since it seems to be really
dead (the HAL that once had been introduced with Gnome2) But I'm not
sure whether other platforms (eg. Solaris world) are still using it.
In that case, it needs to stay, of course.
Another questions is whether we should keep sbus support and the
corresponding sg* drivers.
Feel free to join or mailing list: https://www.freelists.org/list/
(pretty low traffic now)
We also have a telegram chat: https://t.me/x11dev
(very high traffic!)
And a mirror to matrix: https://matrix.to/#/#xlibre:matrix.org
For those wondering what Enrico did in the past, he added illumos
support to his X.org testing framework.
:)
By the way, haven't managed to upgrade it to xlibre yet (too busy with
25.0 release, coming in a few days). Anyone who likes to play around and
fix it, patches (PRs) are always welcomed :)
