While that's a good thing for many reasons, in this case I think it would
just hide
what looks like a clear bug - tail really shouldn't need to keep the file
descriptor
open for every file, so going to 64-bit (or using extendedFILE, come to
that) means
you can leak billions of file descriptors rather than only 256.
