There was a recent post in a similar vein distinguishing between corporate IA and interactive IA. We are most familiar with IA in the context of interaction design and interactive products, but their is also a corporate context that has to do with managing and structuring information throughout a corporation. It would be a similar conversation talking about branding or user experience of a site as opposed to considering every single touch point a consumer has with a product of brand.
