*** Company Description ***

NutsOnline.com, a 3rd generation family business, has grown into one of the
largest food ecommerce companies in North America – selling over 2000
high-quality food products around the world. Our mission is to make people
smile and have a positive impact on our customers’ lives and health.

NutsOnline is at an inflection point in its growth and we are now looking
for a highly entrepreneurial, energetic and ambitious Interaction Experience
Designer. In this role, you’ll be responsible for building and leading a
world-class UX/IA/Product/Creative team. Role will report to the Chief
Marketing Nut.

*** Job Description ***

The Interaction Experience Design will develop process flows, wireframes,
mockups and page / application designs to effectively communicate both
high-level design strategies and detailed user interactions, and provide
thought leadership in architecting both short and long-term design vision
for the entire business (and new, future sister businesses that we’ll
build).

This entrepreneurial person will relentlessly focus on customer experience
with the rest of the marketing, category management and back-end teams to
define requirements.

The ideal candidate will exhibit an uncanny sense for providing elegant,
mainstream presentations of expansive content and assorted feature types.
An unfailing passion and capacity to advocate on behalf of our customers is
an absolute must; this role will significantly impact the buying experience
of end-users by optimizing their ability to find and discover products
online. Because the scope of this position is likely to extend across a
wide variety of features and product lines, the ability to balance
high-level, holistic reasoning with detail-oriented feature design is
imperative.

Specific responsibilities will include:

1. Gather user research data to design information architecture / flows

- Lead user-centered design process & development of information
architecture/flows in conjunction with category management and creative/UI
team

o Identify customer pain points in online shopping experience through UX
research / usability studies

o Synthesize roadmap of changes to radically improve site in conjunction
with UI & Category Management teams

   o Write UX specs

- Design the interface and interaction flow of new site features, and
redesigns of existing functionality

- Hire / manage web analytics specialist to support data-driven decision
making

2. Create wireframes / mockups (and/or potentially manage front-end
developers for wireframes, HTML/CSS)

3. Produce finished screens (or manage UI designers)

- Create and iterate (or oversee development of) designs and interfaces that
are as beautiful as functional, and that meet business requirements (e.g.,
conversions) while minimizing friction.

- Manage and organize deliverables from external design agencies / UI
freelancers. Review deliverables for UX impact, design standards,
implementation ease (e.g., cross-browser support) and page performance

- As needed, pitch in with hands-on contributions to visual design and
creatives (web & offline)

- Own a style guide for visual design elements across online and offline
experience (e.g., for packaging, box stuffers)

- Execute to deliver final products

*** Desired Experience / Qualifications ***

- Driven to have a positive impact on the lives and health of our customers
and those that we work with

- 5+ years experience in web user experience design, spanning both
creative/design side and information architecture. Ideally with experience
managing a team/freelancers and mentoring other passionate UXers/designers

- Soul of an ethnographer with demonstrated history of designing, recruiting
and running usability tests and focus groups

- Masterful at turning ideas into solid UX deliverables – you know what it
takes to turn them into exceptional experiences; and have proven experience
defining, developing and documenting UX design and interaction
requirements/specs

- Recognize that great UX design is done collaboratively, but design by
committee run amok can be the death of good UX design

- Innate capacity and well-honed skills for creating fun, highly usable
designs and layouts

o Impeccable interactive, page layout and creative design skills; expert
knowledge of Illustrator, Photoshop and creating wireframes is a must. Driven
by strong usability principles and web applications framework

o Strong technical skills – meaningful experience working in HTML/XHTML,
CSS, Javascript and other web technologies. Possess an understanding of
their inherent strengths and limitations as they related to the UX
development. (Big plus if you’re all about the semantic web!)

o Candidate must have an impressive portfolio of prior work. Visual
design expertise demonstrated through mockups and style guides

o Able to own conceptual design tasks, *and* also deliver
production-ready front-end code or high fidelity interactive prototypes in a
timely manner and resolve inter-dependencies & conflicts

- Great execution skills – willing to roll up your sleeves and do what’s
necessary to get things done. Also exceptionally attentive to detail

- Excellent communication/listening, organization, collaboration and project
management skills – working within a multi-team environment, balancing
multiple projects and priorities while meeting tight deadlines and
coordinating with others

- Will thrive in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment that requires
hyper-flexibility

- Down to earth and fun – laughs a lot, and can laugh at yourself. (C’mon,
you’ve got to if you work for a company called NutsOnline.com!)

- Bachelors Degree in IxD, design, human-computer interaction (HCI) or
equivalent professional experience. MFA or related design degree a plus

- Located in the NY/NJ area (or willing to re-locate if the role evolves
into a full-time one long-term)

Bonus Points

- You love the benefits of e-commerce so much that you’ve stopped buying
anything from your local grocery store.

- Proven experience working on e-commerce sites (or ones in related fields),
preferably large, dynamically driven ones.

- Strong familiarity with e-commerce performance metrics.

- Experience developing UI and interaction pattern libraries.

*** Location ***

NutsOnline is based in New Jersey, easily commutable from NYC. (But also
open to offsite freelancers with the right experience set)

*** Compensation ***

- Very competitive – we are focused on building a world-class team.
Commensurate
with experience

- Benefits are comprehensive including medical insurance, retirement savings
plan, 401K matching, paid vacation and holidays.

*** How to apply ***

- Please email melissa (at) nutsonline (dot) com with your resume and please
include URLs for your personal and professional sites, or provide access to
an online portfolio.

- Please note, for candidates interested in a temp-to-perm role, this is a
90-day fit to performance role. You’ll be judged based on the results you
deliver, and your cultural fit with the team. (For candidates who are
currently working full-time, we’d be open to a consulting arrangement that
would be a prelude to a potential full-time offer.)

- We’ll reach out to the candidates we’re interested in. (Don’t worry, we
read every application we get, but unfortunately can’t respond to every
email)
