I had same question on certifications when I about to pass my post-graduation. 
One of my mentor had told me.. There is no negative side if you actually do it. 
Instead of knowing something on Red Hat and being certified on Red Had is two 
entirely different thing.

I guess, I did few of my certifications not to get better position in market 
place but to earn the recolonization and credibility on the subjects on which I 
had interest.

I'm interested in hearing what everybody thinks about the value of 
certifications in today's workplace. Do you feel they are worth the money and 
time involved in obtaining them? How valuable are they in the marketplace? When 
you are hiring an IT professional, do you place any value in them?


I'm not sure if this has been discussed in the past but I don't recall seeing 
the discussion before and wanted to see what everybody thought.
