Fellow LOPSA members,

Is LOPSA as a whole currently doing anything to officially take a stand
against the Stop Online Piracy Act (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stop_Online_Piracy_Act)? In the past, have we
as a group made any sort of official statements about important issues such
as this?

The Stop Online Piracy Act threatens the freedom of the internet as we know
it. This isn't just a conspiracy theory, this is real. I encourage
everybody to contact their local Congressperson to voice their opinion on
the subject.

Would it be possible to issue an official statement from the group as a
whole about this (assuming we agree that this is something that should be
stopped)?

I'm interested in what everybody's opinions are on the act, especially if
you are in favor it...I'd like to know why.

My apologies for bringing politics into our group but I feel it is
warranted in this situation. The bill is being sponsored by both Democrats
and Republicans so this isn't a partisan issue.

Best regards,
Evan Pettrey
