It's been a long time since I managed any BackupExec, luckily, it was

IIRC, yes, this is stored in the catalog on the BE master (not media)
server in a sqlexpress database.  IIRC, it's also written to the last
file on the tape media (or in a media set?) so that you can recatalog
the tape should disaster ever strike and your catalog is not
available.

I believe there's a "verify media" option in BE that will read a tape
and check the tape versus the catalog.  IIRC it's not a forensic tool
but rather a media validation tool, but it should be serviceable for
your needs.

No clue on this, we didn't use encryption back then, we used our own
secure facility and courier.  Being a large company had its perks :)
