I used them before, we ended up replacing them with F5s and never looked back.
They're solid middle of the road devices with some mind-numbingly stupid restrictions. I don't expect any load balancer appliance in today's world NOT to support SNMP, so when we wanted to increase our monitoring of the devices we hit a brick wall. Oh, the next model up supposedly supported it, but there were just too many other headaches in managing them... inability to leave comments on rules, etc (which is a problem on some parts of the F5, but the most important piece, the iRules, are written in TCL and thus support comments). In general the device felt like a black box and we were never able to get enough visibility into things to determine if we were hitting bugs, configuration issues, or what. A big "and magic happens here" kind of setup. While the Coyotes themselves never caused an outage, the management headache around dealing with their quirky processes did. I was glad to be rid of them and step up to the F5s. I also believe their SSL offloading support was particularly weak on the model we were using, but that was around three years ago so I can't remember too much more in the way of details. (At some point I need to dig my mail out of Evolution on my local Linux box and re-import it back into Google now that the quota-consuming Splunk alerts have been cleansed). -- ~*~ StormeRider ~*~ "Every world needs its heroes [...] They inspire us to be better than we are.
