Additionally, I run AIDE to do file integrity monitoring (FIM) and SELinux in enforcing mode (adjusting booleans and creating my own policy where necessary) as further (and more useful) mitigation. You might try offering these things plus the historical lack of viruses on Linux as reasoning why antivirus is unnecessary.
