I've heard GREAT things about Quest's tools in general. As for 3rd party commandlets, I use VMware's PowerCLI so often that I'd have to clone myself if I didn't.
My opinion: I would treat them like any other software library. They're might not be shipped with the language itself, and some are more reliable than others, but in general, if the shortcut works, take it.
