$Work has also been making a push for certification, and while I haven't gone through the RHEL classes yet, several admins who I respect have done so and the reports are pretty good.

They really do make you work for it and show that you know RedHat

The one negative that I've heard is that you end up having to memorize a bunch of stuff that in normal use you would just lookup (man pages, google, etc). Not really surprising, and not a critical flaw.

I've worked with a bunch of "certified" people over the years, and most of the time I have not been terribly impressed. I'm sure that there are some RHCE who aren't that good, but they have to know _something_ to get it.
