Changing the focus on the Snowden topci to what should be
the more disturbing piece concerning LOPSA directly. Using
some of the same extremist views and wording to prove the point.
So.... donning the flame suite that has been in storage since
the days of usenet...

In my opinion, the LOPSA Statement is a disaster. It really gives
the appearance of being written by someone with an agenda. I won't
guess what that agenda is, but it makes us, as professionals look
like a civic/moral/legal misfits that can go off at any time and
leave the employer with a real mess to clean up. Did anyone read
the 2nd paragraph?

This is similar to a member of the US Armed Forces swearing an
oath to obey all legal orders of their superiors or a member of
the clergy keeping in confidence all who they counsel within
their order. The military require that illegal activity be
challenged and reported and clergy might encourage reporting of
the crime as a form of penance for the one that committed the crime.

Both of these organizatons are accused of massive cover-ups. I don't want
people to think any of MY choices and actions are being compared to
people in those organizations.

The news recently has been filled with the abuses of the Armed Forces
and various "legal" proceedings getting stomped on by commanding officers.
Have people already forgotten the congressional hearings last week?

The same is true for the clergy and their continued coverup of various
sex scandals. Wasn't a big part of the choice of a new Pope about
how he was going to need to deal with that mess? From the above,
reporting of the crime is the penance, not actually dealing with the
criminal process and penance per local laws. How many of the homosexual,
pedophile priests have even been hauled into a jail cell or court room.
They are special and don't need to abide by "human" laws, just God's where
a few words and all is forgiven. Just a viewpoint, but from outside...
...got the flamesuit on...

I'm sure I've stepped on some nerves somewhere, yet.. Please Stop..
Think.. Continue reading..

Putting these "examples" of the kinds of choices we as professions
are to make is crazy. If this gets passed along to our various managers,
what are they going to take out of it considering the recent news stories.
We, as professionals, can/will make really stupid decissions, and in
some cases illegal actions and we EXPECT our bosses to cover it all up.
That's what appears to happen in the military and clergy. Do we
want/expect the same treatment? Really? It's not what I signed up for.

Using these as examples would give me the impression that admins are
making choices where this is little chance of reprimand no matter how
ugly the crime. Sexual Assult, Rape, ..... It's been going on in
those organizations a long time. Remember Operation TailHook?

Those are much worse in human terms than some information getting out.
The fact is this has just provided some evidence that this is going on.
I'm sure some of you still remember putting keywords into Usenet postings
and adding "food for the NSA line eater".

Again.. Stop. Think. Is this really the message the group wants to push?
In the past when highly political or sensitive subjects have come up,
LOPSA has taken the high road and remained quite until the real facts
have come out. That's not the case here. Everybody is jumping
on the media bandwagon and pushing their agenda on what is going on.
He is being praised and damned depending on the view. At this point,
neither should be happening. We don't have the facts. We have tidbits
that have been leaked to the media and political talking heads all putting
their spin on them as ordered by their handlers. Can we back out of this
mess until more is really known?
