Hmmm, I think I'm in this boat too... I've been with Broadvoice BYOD (only 100 outgoing minutes/month) as my primary since 1996, where it seems to be spotty lately...either that or a lot of regular callers that used to leave voicemail, have suddenly got to leaving me just a few seconds of silence most times.
Though, now that I think of it...I wonder if they knew they were to leave voicemail and when. Since, it seems with increasing frequency have I answered calls where I can hear the caller, but they can't hear me. I didn't know about the phonepower take over until the early part of May, I had been playing with obihai phone adapters...and Google Voice. Though when I got the adapter, it was because a couple years ago my outgoing call volume had gone up considerably....but other than increased use of its voicemail transcription feature, it didn't help with the outgoing call costs... They blocked calls to 'free conference call' numbers (though occasionally some would work for a bit at first or once.) MagicJack redirects the call to their own service.... So, I waited until after Mother's Day to finally make the switch from using Google Voice XMPP...one of the preferred partners for obihai is PhonePower. So, I tried signing up for them.... I got a single email confirmation and then nothing, until a few days later a google voicemail saying that somehow I had entered two completely identical orders at exactly the same time, and my only option to proceed was to make the second order different enough from the first. Well, I instead with the only other option.... >From forum discussions, I signed up with callcentric. Which I still mainly use with Google Voice (though not quite as convenient as before.) I was looking at moving my broadvoice to newer hardware (one where I'll have an FXO port again....old setup had that, but it died and what I threw together as temporary has been in use for the last ~6 years....) I had picked up an AT&T Wireless Home phone unit for cheap last year, that I've been wanting to add into the mix. Part of why I wasn't in a hurry, was that shortly after the switch....naked DSL became available in my area... Though I should do all this sooner rather than later...while I'm still able to do it....I found it a lot harder than I expected to shuffle drives in my disk arrays (fan died in one of the arrays last weekend), wonder if I'll tackle replacing the fan.... Wonder if I'll ever get around to the controller swap... Go so many different tech projects at home that I want to get to...though next project will be to add padding around some table edges, etc. and investigate getting some grab bars installed.
