That shouldn't matter very much, because, suppose hypothetically you already 
had a windows server running AD.  And another running redundancy.  And later 
you come up with some "other reason to use that tech," such as an application 
that requires IIS or MS SQL.  What then?  Put it on the same VM's that are 
acting as directory controllers?  It can be done, but it's not best practice.  
Best practice is to run directory services, and only directory services, on the 
AD controllers.  So "no other reason to use windows server" should be more or 
less irrelevant.
