In the past, a frequent discussion question about LOPSA seemed to be
summarized as "what benefits am I provided through my membership". Often,
the answer seemed to be that the 'community' (as exemplified by the
mailing list, now with the addition of the mentorship program) was the
most valuable benefit.

Many people said that their membership was solely a function of attending
a conference.

I find it extremely difficult to imagine a future sponsorship count
that's consistent with the current membership count, unless the future
free membership increases tremendously. I also find it highly unlikely
that the diminished number of sponsors would collectively contribute as
much income to the organization as the current members, particularly in
the absence of valuable benefits for the sponsors. Personally, I don't
see voting privileges as being a 'benefit' worth a great deal of money.

Hmmm....maybe there should be a voting scheme where the number of votes
per-sponsor is in proportion to their contribution....
