Well done on your reach to improve your life.
Do watch your statements - telling yourself "I'm stuck" will hold you
back.
After years of trying to change it, it's time to admit that what I have
been doing isn't working and I need outside help.
Are there openings for more senior technical positions at ERCOT?
LinkedIn has you as "Systems Administrator", I see ERCOT has openings
for Operations Engineer 2 and Sr Cyber Security Analyst
(https://external-ercot.icims.com/jobs/search?ss=1&searchLocation=&searchCategory=&hashed=-435774332)

My LinkedIn profile is years out of date. I haven't been at ERCOT for
years.
How about interviewing for a more senior position at another company?
If you discover you're not qualified, get qualified (can you learn the
hot new technologies after hours?)
How do I interview for a more senior position? My current title is
Senior Systems Administrator, there are no more senior sysadmin
positions. Plus, I don't want to continue being a keyboard monkey. I
need to jump to a completely different job title, and it needs to not
involve playing Trivial Pursuit with Linux. I'm done with constantly
developing deep technical expertise in narrow subjects. I can't solve
the problems that I see by being at that level. In Goldratt's words,
get rid of local optimizations.
I'm available to work with you one-on-one, if you'd like, through the
LOPSA mentorship program. I see you've held four system administrator
positions over 13 years and I encourage you to reach for a more senior
position - it certainly sounds like you are ready!
I've held a lot more than that and I'm done with being a sysadmin.
