Dear Heinz, The SYS_TABLESPACES and SYS_DATAFILES tables were introduced in MySQL 5.6 and MariaDB Server 10.0, to prepare for supporting CREATE TABLESPACE for InnoDB tables. That support was implemented in MySQL 5.7, but never in MariaDB Server. (I don't see which problem CREATE TABLESPACE would be solving. Okay, in https://jira.mariadb.org/browse/MDEV-29985 you can find some motivation for creating user tables in the InnoDB system tablespace.)
These tables were removed in https://jira.mariadb.org/browse/MDEV-22343. However, old tables were never dropped from the system tablespace. I posted a reminder about this to https://jira.mariadb.org/browse/MDEV-36722 which is how I think the autoshrink feature needs to be redesigned and reimplemented.
