The GNOME Mobile And Embedded Initiative was today announced at the Embedded Linux Conference in Santa Clara, USA. The foundation was founded as a joint effort between several market leading organizations as a community effort to develop and provide an open platform for mobile devices built on top of the mature GNOME software stack.

"As a small company specializing in GTK+ and GNOME, Imendio is excited to be part of the GNOME Mobile & Embedded Initiative. We hope to see this serve as an important bridge between the GNOME community and the embedded market as well as a marketplace for further cooperation between the involved parties", commented Mikael Hallendal, CEO at Imendio AB.
