That kind of high-touch approach will have to be left to those (like, hopefully OpenGeo) who are building and monetizing products around the core software. The non-profit core organization can't do that unless it's willing to become much more vendor-like, which is something OSGeo has repeatedly shied away from (perhaps because OSGeo has many members who work for companies, that, like OpenGeo, are monetizing open source).
