Dear All,
One of the internship projects at the Open Source Geospatial Lab at Centre for
Geospatial Science aims to look into the links between the various open source
GIS projects in the OSGeo umbrella to help us understand the connections
between the various communities, developers, users etc. We are aiming to
produce an academic paper with the results. Jianhua Shao is the internship
student who will lead this project. Myself, George Kuk, Jeremy Morley ,Tyler
Mitchell will also be involved in this project.
Title: Study of collaboration networks in Open Source GIS
Abstract:
Over the last few years there has been tremendous increase in the growth and
maturity of Open Source geospatial software. The Open Source Geospatial
Foundation (OSGeo) has been instrumental in bringing together the various open
source geospatial communities and help sustain this growth. As part of this
project we aim to look into the linkages between various open source GIS
projects, communities, developers, users etc with the aim to better understand
the open source geospatial ecosystem. We will collect data such as maillist,
svn commits, issue tracker etc for doing the analysis and building the model.
The results of the work will be published as a paper.

We greatly welcoming input and suggestions on the best methods for this before
5th March. Is there any previous literature or examples of any studies done
before in this area? If so, please let us know. Please contact Jianhua for any
information needed on this.
Best wishes,
Suchith
