Today is the day for foss4gna :) - http://foss4g-na.org/cfp
If you are considering submitting a presentation, or workshop, please keep the call for paper "tracks" in mind: "FOSS4G Software", "FOSS4G Adoption", "FOSS4G Use Cases & Applications", "Research", and "Lessons Learned: Best Practices, Costs & Benefits". This is general advice for any conference, if you *really* want to talk on a subject, consider how the subject can be approached in different tracks. The same presentation on a new feature may be presented with different emphasis: - FOSS4G Software - a straight up discussion on the features, or its technical approach or merits - FOSS4G Adoption - describe how the feature was developed for a new market or target audience - allowing the use of open source in a new area - FOSS4G Use Case - this is harder to pull off, may have to be a joint presentation with a researcher or customer who is using the feature - Research - the feature may of been developed as a research project, or you may have a chance to show research results enabled by the new feature - Lessons Learned - a chance to step back and look at why the feature was developed and reflect on how effective using open source was as an approach It is often the case that foss4g conferences fill up with "FOSS4G Software" presentations, by exploring your options you may give yourself a better chance at presenting - and the conference organizers a better chance at a balanced program.
