Hello OSGeo community,

I am pleased to announce the release of WhiteboxTools version 0.10.
WhiteboxTools is an advanced open-source geospatial data analysis platform
developed at the University of Guelph starting in 2017. This version adds many
vector and LiDAR data processing capabilities and moves the project closer to
being feature complete. The software can be downloaded
here<https://www.uoguelph.ca/~hydrogeo/WhiteboxTools/download.html>, the source
code is available on GitHub<https://github.com/jblindsay/whitebox-tools>, and
more information about the project can be found on the project
homepage<https://www.uoguelph.ca/~hydrogeo/WhiteboxTools/index.html> and the
user
manual<https://www.researchgate.net/publication/323547863_WhiteboxTools_User_Manual>.

Despite its similar name, WhiteboxTools is a separate project from the Whitebox
Geospatial Analysis Tools (Whitebox GAT) desktop GIS project, which I also
develop. If you are unfamiliar with the project, the following are some key
features:

  * It contains more than 340 tools for processing raster, vector, and LiDAR
data.
  *
  * It has a simple yet powerful Python scripting
interface<https://www.uoguelph.ca/~hydrogeo/WhiteboxTools/interacting_through_python.html>
that allows users to develop custom scripted workflows.
  *
  * WhiteboxTools functions can be readily embedded into hetergenous
scripting environments along with ArcPy, GDAL, and other geoprocessing
libraries.
  * WhiteboxTools can serves as an analytical back-end for other GIS and
remote sensing software (e.g. the QGIS Whitebox for Processing
plugin<https://plugins.bruy.me/processing-whitebox.html>).
  *   It's written in a cross-platform programming language (+118,000 lines of
Rust) and compiled to highly efficient native code. This is one of the biggest
differences between WhiteboxTools and Whitebox GAT.

  * WhiteboxTools is a small (8Mb zip file) stand-alone application with no
external dependencies.

I hope that you find these tools useful and, as always, feedback is welcome and
bugs can be reported through GitHub.

Regards,
