Dear all, Open Earth observations and Geographic Information Systems are key in supporting and achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 2 on Zero Hunger. Geographic Information Science is an important contributor to the advancement of human knowledge, as well to supporting and achieving the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development [1].
The Global Open Data for Agriculture and Nutrition(GODAN) organised ThinkTanks in Nairobi (2016) and Washington D.C (2017) bringing together representatives from governments, industry, academia, NGOs to discuss ideas on open geo data and open tools to achieve food security and sustainable agriculture for SDG 2030. Following up on the GODAN Think Tank recommendations [2] , I am pleased to inform that at GODAN we are doing our best to ensure that in our Capacity Development programs we are providing more opportunities for economically poor communities also to be part of the geo digital economy to ensure digital economy and innovation opportunities for all. As requested by participants at the GODAN ThinkTanks , we have provided links and resources for free and open tools for AgriGIS in our website, training resources etc . That will ensure that all participants getting open EO data have also the tools to work with and there is capacity development, innovation and entrepreneurship opportunities happening at the grassroots and help reduce Digital Feudalism [3] [4]. There are some examples of Bridging the Geospatial Digital Divide and providing opportunities for economically poor communities also to be part of the geo digital economy at https://www.osgeo.org/foundation-news/bridging-the-geospatial-digital-divide/ I am looking for more examples of capacity development, innovation and entrepreneurship opportunities focussed on Bridging the Geospatial Digital Divide for United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 2 on Zero Hunger to learn more and share them to the Global Agriculture community as GODAN Success stories. Please email your examples on this to suchith.an...@godan.info<mailto:suchith.an...@godan.info> I am grateful to everyone working to make geoeducation and digital economy opportunities available for everyone.
