I believe there are two issues someone in a leadership role or a designate has to address in order to ensure the best likelihood of success of our efforts. I don't even know if you're being deliberately vague in your response, or you just don't have time to write out a more comprehensive explanation.
Firstly, if the Jenkster or anyone else created a calculation that shows all relevant numbers, I urge leadership to send that out to announce as well. It seems to me that every announce-reading member deserves to know the exact numbers. And there should be a way to electronically stay up to date with the efforts as we make progress toward documented and publicized goals. Secondly, just going with what landlord asks is potentially a bad idea. Tenants have rights, and this stuff is legislated to protect tenants from money-hungry landlords, which appears to be what we're dealing with. I only have experience in residential tenancies, but in my 5 years of living at my previous apartment, I had to refer to the legislation several times because the landlord was often on the lookout to screw me out of my money and rights. I urge leadership or designate to educate themselves about their rights, and not make any concessions that are legally unnecessary. You may well have done due diligence, but I don't think announce readers have been given evidence of this. Perhaps a bold statement here would be to point out my experience with regard to lack of responsiveness a particular elected leader had shown to my emails about paying my dues. It might be the case that the elected leaders do not have the time to address these things, and in that case a designate should be found. If this an existential problem as you present it, it deserves appropriate amount of attention. I am in no way judging your response to this issue as I do not actually know the facts, neither am I complaining about any interaction I've had so far with the elected leaders, you guys are great, and have done a great job as far as I can tell. I'm just expressing my concern, which is perhaps shared with other less outspoken members, and providing some ideas for how to address the problem.
