Is there any advantage to using one of these 800s over just using my

For most people and most situations, no. Not unless you want to gain
familiarity with Cisco equipment.
In the general case (MTS DSL or Shaw cablemodem), using a Cisco
800-series router for a home connection is just a huge pain in the ass
compared to anything you can get at Future Shop.
On the other hand, if you're already a Cisco fan, and/or working towards
a Cisco certification, then absolutely you should be running a Cisco
router at home!
