Welcome, Troy. I am a new member as of yesterday as well. Not sure if you read my introduction, or if you just subscribed to the list this morning. But some of our interests overlap, I use Linux as an everyday system, so if you have any questions or need to know how to do something I may be of service. I use Debian however, but it's similar enough to Ubuntu for me to be of some help. I also a have a fond interest in embedded systems, played with one awhile back called the SheevaPlug, which I ended up using as a firewall/router. Luckily shaw modems support USB networking, as the SheevaPlug only has a single Ethernet jack on it. That was an interesting experience.
