That's exactly right. At 10, if the Squeezebox hasn't connected to an infrastructure network, it tries to connect to an AdHoc network of the same name. I've never heard of this kind of crash, it's possible it's a bad wireless card or an incompatibility with your access point. What make/model are the wireless devices on your network?

this in turn created a new problem, or at least discovered it

when i power up the box it counts down looking for my wireless network
when it gets to 10, and ALWAYS at 10 it REBOOTS

BUT

if i go into setup and just keep pressing right... not changing a thing...
go though all the stuff, ie. ssid, encryption key, so fourth
it finds the network by count of 17... and from this point on is pretty SOLID

so, it seems this "reboot" issue only happens when I put power to the box initally

any thoughts?

It's not really an issue, since it goes through the process on its own and finally makes the connection. There is a technical reason for this, I'm not sure of the exact details, but essentially the Squeezebox is trying one method of finding the network, failing, then trying a different method and succeeding.
